Large Mata Ortiz Polychrome Olla Pottery
This vintage, Large Mata Ortiz Polychrome Olla Pottery by Tomas Azuna is an impressive offering, that we acquired recently. A traditional style, it was hand built and then scraped smooth to shape it. Free-hand painted, the animated and stylistic design reminds us of the natural winds and surf in the Gulf of Mexico. These wonderful images dance over stone burnished clay. About 11-1/2" tall and 11-1/2" at the widest, it's signed underneath and in very nice, used condition. This Large Mata Ortiz Polychrome Olla Pottery will look fantastic, no matter where you put it!
Tomas frequently works with his wife, Silvia Silveira and both work the clay in the old style using beige clay and Casa Grandes designs. His contemporary work has taken him into blackware.
