Tall Mata Ortiz Polychrome Pottery
This Tall Mata Ortiz Polychrome Pottery is a beautiful handmade olla created by Griselda and Juan Camacho. They are members of the Casa Grandes family of artists. Building the walls from a flat clay round and adding one coil at a time, the outside firing is traditional. Free hand painted with a human hair brush, checkerboard patterns complement the stylized mimbres, cricket pattern. Stone polishing creates the soft shine on the base clay. With the ring stand, it's about 11-3/4" tall and 7-1/2" at the widest and is signed. This gorgeous, Tall Mata Ortiz Polychrome Pottery is one of a kind!
Griselda Camacho de Silveria works with her husband Juan as a team, but only Gris signs the work. She is referenced in "The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz" and "The Miracle of Mata Ortiz".
