Vintage Polychrome Frog Woman Pottery
This Vintage Polychrome Frog Woman Pottery was handmade by Hopi Joy Navasie. Hand built and painted with symbolic, linear patterns, it was stone polished, hand painted and pit fired. The pueblo graphics are contrasted by the white slip background. It's 2-1/2" tall and almost 5" wide and is hand hallmarked. In very good, used condition. This Vintage Polychrome Frog Woman Pottery is tradition and talent all wrapped up in one lovely piece of Native American artistry!
Joy (1919-2012) is the second Frog Woman and she learned from her mother, Paqua Naha. She started making pots when she was 17 years old. She is referenced in Schaaf's, "Hopi-Tewa Pottery, 500 Artist Biographies" & Hayes & Blom, "Southwestern Pottery: Anasazi to Zuni", Dillingham's "Fourteen Families of Pueblo Pottery".
