Vintage Hopi Globe Mallow Kachina Doll

This Vintage Hopi Globe Mallow Kachina Doll was handmade by Buddy Dukepoo Tubinaghtewa. He depicts Kopon, a Runner, who comes to the kachina dances in pairs, but races one at a time. In each hand, he carries a yucca whip to use on the loser. He rewards the winner with piki bread. He has a case mask topped by feathers, red paddle ears, leather armbands and a ketoh cuff. The traditional cottonwood is hand painted and detailed with a decorated skirt and finished with bare feet. He's 8-1/2" tall and 4" at the widest, and is named, dated '84 and hallmarked under the base. This Vintage Hopi Globe Mallow Kachina Doll is a rarely seen katsina and he's one of a kind!   

Buddy (1962- ) is an award winning carver, who was born in Second Mesa into the Sun Forehead Clan. He has been featured in "Southwest Art Magazine", "Arizona Highways" and "Native Peoples Magazine" and is referenced in Schaaf's "Hopi Katsina 1600 Artist Biographies".
