Vintage Hopi Snow Maiden Kachina Doll

This Vintage Hopi Snow Maiden Kachina Doll was hand carved and painted by Aaron Joseph. Depicting Nuvak'chin Mana, this supernaturals' presence is a prayer for the coming cold weather, that replenishes the ground with moisture. Wearing a traditional tunic, a tray of watermelon is offered for blessings or to feed onlookers in the Going Home (Niman) Ceremony. About 9-1/2" tall (includes base) and 3-1/2" at the widest, it's signed and named, and in very good, used condition. This Vintage Hopi Snow Maiden Kachina Doll is one of a kind!

There are a few First Mesa carvers named Joseph and referenced in Schaaf's "Hopi Katsina: 1600 Artist Biographies", but Aaron is not mentioned.

We are conveniently located near Scottsdale, Mesa and Phoenix, AZ in the historic town of Gilbert. Unfortunately, due to Covid and other factors, we are unable to take walk in customers at this time.
