Vintage Mary Juan Ribbon Award Winning Maricopa Wedding Vase Pottery Vessel

This Vintage Mary Juan Maricopa Wedding Vessel is indicative of the legacy left behind by the late, great Mary Juan. Noted and recognized as the best potter of the Maricopa Pottery Revival Period that came to start in the late 1930's, she crafted this redware vessel using clay that had a high iron content to create the signature brick red color once fired. Despite it's simplistic design with no painted additions, this vase won two awards in 1960 and 1961, respectively for first premium and second premium places at the Arizona State Fair. This wedding vessel is approximately 8" by 9", vintage circa late 1950's to 1960, and in excellent condition. This Vintage Mary Juan Ribbon Award Winning Maricopa Wedding Pottery Vessel will have any collector in awe of it's impeccable design and it's presence in any home!

Mary Juan (1892-1972) was a cousin of famed Maricopa (formerly the Peeposh tribe until the Spanish renamed them to Maricopa) potter Ida Redbird, who was the president of the Maricopa Pottery Cooperative and had made Mary a member. She was part of the early revival period from 1937-1941, and was often compared to famed Hopi-Tewa potter Nampeyo in excellent quality of work.

Alltribes Native American Art and Jewelry blends ancient history, natural beauty, and unparalleled expertise flawlessly. We are conveniently located near Scottsdale, Mesa and Phoenix, AZ in the historic town of Gilbert. Unfortunately, due to Covid and other factors, we are unable to take walk in customers at this time. Our dazzling, Sleeping Beauty Turquoise comes from a nearby mine in Globe, AZ. This unique and exceedingly rare turquoise is renowned for its hardness, durability, and gorgeous color.
