Vintage San Ildefonso Blackware Bowl
This Vintage San Ildefonso Blackware Bowl was handmade by Doninia Tafoya and her daughter Elizabeth. This simply, exquisite form was hand built in coils, scraped smooth, stone polished and fired in dung. After firing, the traditional high shine reveals itself. It's 3-1/2" tall and 4-1/2" wide and in very good, used condition with some light wear. It's signed and made ca. 1970's. This Vintage San Ildefonso Blackware Bowl is one of a kind!
Donicia (1912-1979) was born in the Santa Clara pueblo but married into San Ildefomso. She was the mother of noted potters Juan Tafoya and Elizabeth Lovato, whom she worked with, in her later years. She is referenced in Schaaf's, "Pueblo Indian Pottery: 750 Artist Biographies".
