Vintage Silver Mudhead Kachina Bolo Tie

This Vintage Silver Mudhead Kachina Bolo Tie was handmade in Sterling by George Dyckman. It depicts Koyemsi, the first Being to emerge into this, the Fourth World of the Hopi. He is both serious and entertaining and was made with traditional gourds for his ears and head topper, and he carries a feather and dance rattle. He's 5" tall and 1-5/8" at the widest and is threaded on a new braided, black leather cord. It's about 43" end to end. The tips are wrapped with bead wire with dangling tips. It's hallmarked and stamped Sterling. A truly remarkable piece of craftsmanship, this Vintage Silver Mudhead Kachina Bolo Tie is one of a kind!

George Dyckman (1926-2009) was a true renaissance man and judging from the details of this collection, he was extraordinarily meticulous! After retiring as an engineer at Honeywell, he dabbled in real estate and created new and unique items for McDonnell Douglas. He lived in Prescott Valley, where it took about 20 years (starting in the 1970’s) to create this kachina gathering. He had no experience as a jeweler, but was fascinated by the mystical tales of the Hopi katsina. His grandson finally decided to part with his collection, so that others may own them and enjoy wearing them!
