Vintage Southwest Hömsona Kachina Bolo Tie

This Vintage Southwest Hömsona Kachina Bolo Tie was handmade in Sterling by George Dyckman. It depicts a Third Mesa Runner, known as "He Cuts Your Hair". He runs races and the loser will have his hair shorn by the big knife he carries. Shown in wonderful detail, the ceremonial skirt and sash are inlaid with block pieces of turquoise, shell and jet. He wears an etched neck ruff and carries a lock of hair. He's 4-3/4" tall and 2-1/8" at the widest and is threaded on a new braided, black leather cord. It's about 43" end to end. The complementing tips are wrapped in flattened Silver in an overlaid pattern with a dangle at each end. It's hallmarked and stamped Sterling. This Vintage Southwest Hömsona Kachina Bolo Tie is museum quality for sure and it's one of a kind!

George (1926-2009) was a true renaissance man and judging from the details of this collection, he was extraordinarily meticulous! After retiring as an engineer at Honeywell, he dabbled in real estate and created new and unique items for McDonnell Douglas. He lived in Prescott Valley, where it took about 20 years (starting in the 1970’s) to create this kachina gathering. He had no experience as a jeweler, but was fascinated by the mystical tales of the Hopi katsina. His grandson finally decided to part with his collection, so that others may own them and enjoy wearing them!
