Old Pawn Inlaid Knifewing Turquoise Silver Belt Buckle

This Old Pawn Inlaid Knifewing Turquoise Silver Belt Buckle was handmade by Zuni smiths, Harlan and Monica Coonsis. It features Achiya La-da-ba, the half-man and half-eagle warrior of Pueblo lore! With his wide spread wings and intimidating stance, this sky being has been the hero of hundreds of Pueblo tales. This one-of-a-kind, Sterling accessory is skillfully fitted with hand cut pieces of genuine Turquoise, Coral with Jet accents. The hand detailing brings out the texture of the feathers and the pattern in the skirt. In very good, used condition, it’s hallmarked and stamped Sterling and is 2-1/2" by 1-3/4” with a 1-1/2" keeper. Handcrafted in a smaller size, it can be also worn by teens or ladies. This Old Pawn Inlaid Knifewing Turquoise Silver Belt Buckle celebrates the mystical lore of the Ashiwi People and their connection to their spirit ancestors!

NOTE: This comes with the original patina, but can be buffed to a new high shine, making it non-returnable.

Harlan (1958- ) was born into the Sun Clan at Zuni Pueblo, NM. He is the grandson of Myra Qualo and an award-winning artisan, who works with his wife Monica. They are known for their high-quality lapidary skills. They are referenced in Schaaf's "American Indian Jewelry I and II", Hougart's "Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks" and Bassman's "Zuni Jewelry".
