Navajo Handmade Silver Hair Barrette

This Navajo Handmade Silver Hair Barrette by Thomas Begay depicts a repeating, Hopi lightning ladder with rain symbols. These traditional images are important symbols of pueblo life and were crafted from two sheets of German Silver. The metal was cut out and hammered, and finished with etching and a satin buffing. Measuring 3-1/8" long and 5/8" wide, it's securely mounted to a spring clip and is hallmarked. This Navajo Handmade Silver Hair Barrette is a pretty, southwest cure for bad hair days!

Individually handmade, designs may vary slightly.

Thomas (1955- ) was born in Many Farms, AZ. He learned the traditional style from his father but eventually switched over to Hopi overlay, a style that he has loved for as long as could remember. His wife of more than 40 years, Ilene (1948- ) sometimes helps him with the stamping.

While most of our silversmiths are Navajo, we employ artists from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some work from home, on the reservation, and some work here in our shop. Alltribes Native American Art and Jewelry blends ancient history, natural beauty, and unparalleled expertise flawlessly. We are conveniently located near Scottsdale, Mesa and Phoenix, AZ in the historic town of Gilbert. Unfortunately, due to Covid and other factors, we are unable to take walk in customers at this time.
