Sioux Tribe Hand Carved Pipestone Disk Peace Pipe

Form and function combine with perfection in this vintage Sioux Tribe Hand Carved Pipestone Disk Peace Pipe. The disk pipe was a old form popular in the Mississippian Period (1400 to 1700) and the round design was possibly a sun effigy. This one is a proper homage to those prehistoric designs. The flat circular bowl has an etched triangle slicing through the center and the flat design keeps your tobacco and herbs from falling to the ground while loading. A blue painted snake and 'X' decorate the wooden stem. The smokable bowl is hand carved from genuine Pipestone from Minnesota by a true artist. Signed by the Sioux pipe carver Standing Eagle. Total length is 20-1/2", the bowl is 3-1/8" wide by 4" long. This pipe is mid 20th century. We acquired this item from a collector who was actively collecting in the 60's and 70's. They recently liquidated their collection and we were lucky enough to get first pick of the amazing peace pipes and cultural artifacts like this one.
