Navajo Snake Hunt Fetish Antler Carving by Tony Turpin
In this exciting Navajo Rattlesnake Fetish by artist Tony Turpin, a snake wraps around the tree hollow hideout of a rodent who seems both leery and somewhat unaware of the danger he is facing! This Antler carving is not a typical animal fetish! For one, it includes two different animals, but most interestingly this fetish captures a harrowing moment and tells a story. With true mastery of his craft, Tony skillfully carved the rattlesnake in a way to retain some of the antler's outer layer to become the coloring of the snake's body. The textures are very life-like and the detail is amazing. This fetish is a little over 4-1/2" tall by 1-1/8" wide at the widest point. It is signed by the Navajo carver Anthony Turpin. This Navajo Snake Hunt Fetish is a true work of art that fits in the palm of your hand!
This and other carvings were part of a private collection and were extremely well cared for. The previous owner collected these in the last quarter of the 20th century.
