Vintage Cochiti Frog Storyteller Pottery

This Vintage Cochiti Frog Storyteller Pottery was handmade by Martha Arquero. Using local clay, it was built from coils, that were shaped and smoothed and then painted with all natural pigments and fired outside to finish. The patient mother holds her five "children" and one peeks out of mom's mouth. There's even a little fly that's found its way to her waiting tongue. About 4" tall and 5-3/4" at the widest, it's in very good, used condition, it's signed and ca 1980's. An authentic Native American collectible, this Vintage Cochiti Frog Storyteller Pottery will delight all who see it!

Martha (1944- ) was born in the Cochiti NM and was taught by her mother, Damacia Cordero. She has been active since 1977. Her sisters, Josephine Arquero and Marie Laweka also work in clay. She is referenced in Schaaf's "Southern Pueblo Pottery", Hayes and Blom's "Southwestern Pottery: Anasazi to Zuni" and Schiffers "Pueblo and Navajo Contemporary Pottery".
