Vintage Hopi Overlaid Silver Belt Buckle

This Vintage Hopi Overlaid Silver Belt Buckle was handmade by Pueblo smith, Weaver Selina. It features a traditional bear paw pattern accented in the palm by a heartline symbolizing wind and rain, just what the desert needs! The clan animal stands on a cliff of additional rain patterns. Crafted from two layers of Sterling, hand sawing with hand etching and oxidation brings this mighty beast to life! The metal was matte buffed to finish. It's 3" by 2" with a 1-1/2" keeper. In very nice, used condition, it's stamped Sterling and pictograph hallmarked with the Sun’s Forehead. This really nice, Vintage Hopi Overlaid Silver Belt Buckle is a classic Southwest accessory!  

 NOTE: This comes with the original matte finish, but can be buffed to a new high shine, making it non-returnable.

Weaver (1944- ) was born of the Sun Forehead Clan in the village of Shungopavi (Second Mesa). He's an award winning artist, who learned from Bernard Dawahoya, Eldon James, and Manuel Poseyesva. His jewelry is in the permanent collections of the Heard Museum and the Museum of Northern Arizona, as well as private collections in the US, Japan and Germany. He is referenced in Wright's "Hallmarks of the Southwest" and "Hopi Silver" and Hougart's "Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks".
