Vintage Jemez Bird Pottery
This Vintage Jemez Bird Pottery was handmade by Louisa Panana. Distinguished by its perfect mix of primitive beauty and pueblo symbolism, this lovely bowl was hand built in coils and then pinched smooth and shaped. The artisan used a yucca brush and natural paints to create the images. It's finished with a fluted rim. It's 4-1/2" to 4-3/4" tall and 6-3/4" at the widest. In very good, used condition for its age, with fading and wear. This deacessioned bowl is hand signed and dated 1966. A rare bird indeed, this Vintage Jemez Bird Pottery is pueblo art for your home or office!
Little is known about Louisa (1891-1972) other than she worked in clay most of her adult life, and also taught her children.
