 Vintage Hopi Wuo'e Clown Kachina Doll

This Vintage Hopi Clown Kachina Doll was hand carved and painted by C Leslie using all cottonwood! It depicts Wou'e, who used to appear in the Beans Dances, but has not been there for a long time, and so his songs have been forgotten. He wears a traditional white case mask with a red chevron across his nose. He also wears a "lambskin" wig and wears a traditional kilt, sash and fox pelt. He carries a gourd rattle and a lightning bolt. About 11" tall and 3-1/4" at the widest, it's dated 2001 and in very good, used condition. This Vintage Hopi Clown Kachina Doll is signed and is one of a kind!

Although there are several family members from First Mesa, listed in Schaaf's "Hopi Katsina 1600 Artist Biographies" and Bromberg's "The Hopi Approach to the Art of Kachina Doll Carving", C is not identified.
