Vintage Hopi Polik-mana Kachina Doll

This Vintage Hopi Polik-mana Kachina Doll was handmade by Belvin Yuyaheova. This maiden is almost identical in appearance to the Shalako-taka and is his counterpart in action. Representing the Cloud People, she displays an elaborate tableta with rain symbolism and powerful eagle feather points. They appear together to ask the clouds to pause over Hopi lands. Wrapped in a tunic of eagle feathers, she wears a turquoise and coral necklace and has a red raindrop on the back of her hair. The hand carved and painted cottonwood is about 15-3/8" tall and 7" at the widest. It's hallmarked and dated '84 under the base and is in extremely nice, used condition. Belvin was born at Keams Canyon, Arizona and resides in Shungopovi (Second Mesa), and is a member of the Snow Clan. He has been carving since he was 11 and is also a silversmith. He may be related to Farrell Yuyaheova.
