Vintage Santa Clara Avanyu Pottery Jar

This Vintage Santa Clara Avanyu Pottery by Vickie Martinez Tafoya displays the water serpent of tribal lore. Deeply carved redware, the animal wraps its way around this wonderful, museum quality pot. Hand built and pit fired, it was stone polished to achieve the traditional contrast.  It's about 5" tall and about 5" wide and is signed. In very good, used condition, circa 1990's. Well priced and collectible, this Vintage Santa Clara Avanyu Pottery Jar is one of a kind and absolutely beautiful!

Vickie (1967- ) is an award winning artisan and was taught by her mother Barbara Martinez and her grandmother, Flora Naranjo. She is referenced in Schaaf's "Pueblo Indian Pottery: 750 Artist Biographies" and Schiffer's "Pueblo and Navajo Contemporary Pottery"

We are conveniently located near Scottsdale, Mesa and Phoenix, AZ in the historic town of Gilbert. Unfortunately, due to Covid and other factors, we are unable to take walk in customers at this time.
